weird explosion effect
hi everyone
i really liked the trailer of x rebirth but there was just one tiny problem that bothered me a lot and it was the big explosions.
the problem i'm seeing is that the big explosions like the one at 2:57 of the X Rebirth - First trailer video is somehow 1 dimensional and it looks like a big flat flash that goes even through the ship i mean like at 2:57 the explosion is at the middle part of the ship ( surface ) and then the effect shows and you can't see the back of the ship and the effect cuts through the ship .
at least it's what i'm seeing i hope i'm wrong but if i'm not pls egosoft i'm no expert at visual effects but i don't think it's gonna be a hard work to fix that.
every other aspects off the game i love though and it look like this 3 months gonna be 10 year long for me

I agree, the the initial explosion on the destruction of an object looks dated along side the rest of the graphical splendour. I also noted weird popping of billboard-textures that form space dust clouds and other such fog/cloud like spacial features, it looks out of place when compared to the rest of the engine capability.

The technique they are using is extremely aged. Basically every time there's an explosion, and emitter pops up and sends out the same number of sprites which are told to always face the player and then die off. They wont have any lighting information attached to them either.
I feel like the 2d looking explosions they have belong in a spac sim from the 1990s, not 2013.
