Squadmates can't use Travel Drive

I'm not sure if I'm missing something like an upgrade on the ship my squadmate is flying, but whilst trying to go back to the Experiment Site If i Enable Travel Drive via Shift+1 I leave my squadmate far behind.

Is this behavious intentional, or does it sound like II'm missing something that needs to be fitted to the second ship. We both have the same Engines and Thrusters.

I have now found that if i try to use Autopilot it decides to use a speed of 18. The ship the Squadmate is in is faster than mine. This is rather Frustrating, especially as I now have to replay the Mission due to Khaak and the autosave deciding to ruin the day between them.
